In this article, we'd like to highlight the differences between the "USV-1M" and "USV-4" cotton candy machines. Previously, these machines were often associated with the names "Tom and Jerry" and "Kesha and Vova," with corresponding stickers on the body.
Since the casings of these devices are identical and the manufacturer has recently been periodically releasing devices with different stickers on the casings, you can find the "USV-4" model in a "Tom and Jerry" casing on the market, and the "USV-1M" device in a casing of the "Pony" device, which was discontinued in 2017.
Therefore, for the sake of clarity, we propose to stick to the factory names of the devices "USV-1M" and "USV-4".
The "USV-1M" model , a machine with over twenty years of history, dispenses cotton wool upward. This device can be used to create flowers and various shapes. However, this requires specialized skills, experience, and dexterity from the operator. The "USV-1M" also allows you to quickly change the color of the cotton wool dispensed. The machine's thread can be pulled far from the machine, creating a truly spectacular effect.
Despite the aforementioned advantages, the device does have its drawbacks. The first is the inertia of the device's head. The long warm-up period upon startup—approximately 8-10 minutes—is inconvenient when there isn't a constant flow of clients and the device needs to be turned off periodically. The same goes for cooling, which takes a long time and requires strict adherence to the procedure: first turn off the head heating, and then leave the head rotating for 5-10 minutes. Failure to follow this procedure will quickly cause the grease in the bearing assembly to burn out, potentially seizing the shaft, leading to motor failure. Furthermore, the bearing assembly requires lubrication at least every two months. We recommend using heat-resistant grease "Ciatim 221" for maintenance. Using a syringe, inject about 5 cc of "Ciatim" into the bearing assembly through the hole after loosening the bolt.
Another drawback is the dependence of the "USV-1M" machine's performance on line voltage (when the voltage drops below 200V, it takes longer to convert sugar into thread). In this case, a stabilizer with a power rating of 1.5 kW or more can solve the problem.
The "USV-4" model has been in production for over seven years and is currently one of the most reliable cotton candy machines produced in Ukraine. This device offers the best value for money.
The "USV-4" model dispenses cotton wool from the sides. The bottom of the head has wings that lift the cotton wool upward. This allows the cotton wool to be wound from above, but the cotton wool is dispensed from a wide front.
The heating elements in this model are located inside the head and directly contact the sugar, melting it to the temperature needed for producing sugar thread. Thanks to this head design, the machine reaches operating temperature in just a couple of minutes. The head and bearing assemblies do not overheat and are therefore much less susceptible to failure. Cooling this machine follows the same principle as the "USV-1M": turn off the heating and let it spin for 3-5 minutes.
These machines can be used to make colorful cotton candy in various colors. First, prepare a container with sugar and add a special flavoring additive/coloring at a rate of 1 tablespoon per 4.5 kg of sugar. The coloring must be added dry. Mix the sugar and coloring thoroughly and pour the mixture into the head of the machine. The result will be colored cotton candy with the flavor of the chosen additive.
