In this article, we'd like to show our customers the profits that can be made from selling a relatively new fast food item in Ukraine: spiralized potatoes. This product is also known as spiral chips, potato skewers, or spiral potatoes. The preparation process is very simple. First, washed, unpeeled potatoes are sliced into a spiral using a special vegetable/chip cutter. Chip cutters can be manual or electric. Electric machines are either fully automatic or semi-automatic. Some machines require pre-piercing the potato with a skewer, while others cut the potato directly into the skewer. After the potato is spiralized and placed on a wooden skewer, it is deep-fried. The finished fried spiralized potatoes are sprinkled with seasonings and served to the customer.
Now comes the fun part. Let's look at some economic calculations that demonstrate how profitable this business is. The average market price for potatoes is 3 UAH/kg. We assume that 1 kg contains 10 medium potatoes. This means that the price of one potato is 30 kopecks. One bamboo skewer costs 35 kopecks. You can also use frying fat for frying; it costs 448 UAH for 10 liters, which is enough to fry 1,500 potatoes. Each potato also requires 20 kopecks worth of seasoning. Adding up these figures, we find that the raw material cost for one spiral potato is 1.15 UAH. Frying with vegetable oil is also possible, which can slightly reduce raw material costs. Adding in electricity and labor costs, the finished product costs around 3 UAH.

You can sell spiral-shaped potatoes starting at 10 UAH. As you can see, the profitability of this business is very high. And the start-up costs are minimal. The minimum equipment for selling up to 100 servings of spiral-shaped chips per day costs 3,200 UAH. As you can see, this equipment set can pay for itself in a week.
For added variety, spiral potatoes can be sold on a sausage; the price for this product starts at 15 hryvnia, depending on the sausage's quality. Offering customers a choice of several seasonings can attract customers and increase sales.
