How to choose a professional kettle?

How to choose a professional kettle?
20 January 2020 - 13:47 Views:3515
An electric kettle is a device that heats water to a desired temperature. Professional kettles are used in applications where large volumes of water need to be heated, and household models are unable to meet this requirement.

An electric kettle is an indispensable heating device that is installed in various catering establishments (cafes, bars, restaurants, canteens, cafes, etc.), in hotels and sanatoriums, in schools and kindergartens, as well as in medical and office institutions.

To help you choose the right electric kettle, let's take a look at its structure and the different types of this equipment.

A professional kettle is a water reservoir equipped with heating elements. The kettle is standardly equipped with a tap for dispensing liquid, a temperature control knob, carrying handles, and a removable lid. The body also features a power and heating indicator and a liquid level gauge.

Some models also include a drip tray in their design.
The body of the kettle is made of food-grade stainless steel, which complies with sanitary standards.

By type, boilers are classified as:
  • Electric kettles of pouring type.

Fill-type water heaters are the most common choice for consumers - they are easy to use, inexpensive, and have a wide selection of models.

The tank is filled with water manually, the liquid level is controlled visually using a tube with a scale on the body.
Electric kettles of this type are portable and can be installed in a convenient location. They typically operate on a 220V power supply.
Using the regulator, the required temperature is set, upon reaching which the device switches to the heating mode and maintains the set parameter.
The appliance is intended solely for boiling and heating water, as well as for preparing mulled wine for commercial purposes. It is not suitable for heating milk, drinking chocolate, or other beverages.
  • Flow-through electric kettles.

Continuous-flow electric water heaters are often used in facilities with high hot water demands, such as large cafeterias, health resorts, and educational institutions. Water is supplied via a water supply. The tank is filled and heated by heating elements to the set temperature. Instantaneous water heaters consume more electricity than water heaters and often require a 380V power supply, which is not available to every facility.

Models of instantaneous water heaters from European manufacturers are equipped with an electronic display, are easy to operate and have a modern design.
  • Electric geyser-type kettles, so-called tea dispensers, teapots

Tea dispensers or teapots differ in design from classic water heaters - they have a filter-sieve inside the reservoir, into which tea leaves or ground coffee are poured.

These devices also feature two heating systems: water, heated by the main heating element, boils and rises through a special tube, steaming the contents of the filter. A control indicator indicates when the drink is ready. When the temperature drops to 85 degrees Celsius, the geyser-type electric kettle turns on automatically. A second, separate heating system maintains the drink's temperature.
There is no temperature regulator on the body; it is switched on using a button on the body.
Tea and coffee machines are most often used in self-service lines of food service establishments, as well as in hotels.

Modern models of electric kettles are usually equipped with a fuse to prevent overheating or dry switching and a water level indicator.
On the bottom of the device there is a RESET button, which turns off the device in case of overheating, providing protection against heating of an empty tank.
When choosing a water heater, an important parameter is the design of the device's walls - it can be made with one or two walls.
We recommend choosing double-walled kettles and tea dispensers , as this design feature can reduce energy consumption by 20%.
An electric kettle with two insulated walls functions like a thermos, keeping drinks at a preset temperature for longer. The kettle's body stays significantly cooler, making it safer to use.

When choosing a professional electric kettle, check the power of the device and its connection to the network - 220 V or 380 V.
The average time to heat 10 liters of water with an electric boiler power of 1.3-1.8 kW is 30-45 minutes.
Regarding the types of heaters, a “dry” heating element is more durable and safer than a “wet” one, therefore modern models are equipped with closed, “dry” heating elements.

Using kettles with a capacity of approximately 10 liters as an example, we will conduct a comparative analysis of models from the most popular brands on the Ukrainian market:

Recommendations for care and operation.

  • To prevent scale formation on the tank walls, use purified water.
  • Monitor the water level to avoid heating an empty tank. Never operate the device without water in the tank.
  • Do not fill the appliance above the maximum level indicated on the inside wall of the tank to prevent splashing of hot water when boiling.
  • To avoid burns from steam, do not remove the lid of the kettle during operation.
  • The surface temperature of the device is very high during use. Touch only the handles, switch, and temperature control knob.
  • When carrying and washing, handle plastic and glass elements of the boiler with care - taps and indicator tubes most often require repair or replacement.
